Sylvia Mueller is a Hudson Valley-based collage artist whose practice examines material reuse and the transformation of printed matter. She studied photography at the School of Visual Arts before working in advertising and magazine production in New York City. After relocating to the Hudson Valley, she returned to her creative practice through collage, drawn to its direct process of cutting, arranging, and reconstructing images.

Working with magazines, art books, and found printed materials, Sylvia creates layered compositions in which fragments overlap and acquire new associations. References to nature emerge through color, texture, and organic forms, bringing visual elements from different sources into dialogue. Her process draws upon her background in photography and publishing while allowing meaning to develop through physical experimentation and juxtaposition. Sylvia’s work has been presented in juried exhibitions at Sketchbook Gallery, CREATE Council on the Arts, Limner Gallery, Upstream Gallery, Woodstock Artists Association and Museum, and Muroff Kotler Gallery at SUNY Ulster, as well as in Cut Me Up magazine. She is a founding member of CIRCLE24collective, a community of women artists, and belongs to the National Collage Society and Special Agent Collage Collective. Sylvia is also a member and current board member of the Woodstock Artists Association and Museum.
