The Narrowing (2026)

The Narrowing repurposes an abandoned high school scoreboard, once used to measure progress, competition, and failure. Its circuitry produces a continuous sequence of red illumination as “STRIKE” and the numbers 1, 2, and 3 cycle without resolution. Between the panels, a female mannequin is compressed within the structure. Her face, assembled from fired clay fragments and secured with red leather straps, resists coherence and stability. The work examines how normalized pressure can transform adaptation into confinement. Without release or triumph, the suspended body remains inside an architecture that continually measures, signals, and tightens, becoming a monument to endurance and collapse.
