NAOMI BERKERY
mixed media, wheat paste on canvas
24H x 24W in (61H x 61W cm)
This work reimagines the traditional postage stamp as a site of identity, movement, and visibility, merging street art with intimate portraiture. By enlarging and disrupting the familiar format, it challenges systems of value, circulation, and who is considered worthy of being seen or remembered. Layered with gestural marks, collage, and expressive lines, the female figure exists within and beyond the stamp’s boundaries, suggesting containment and resistance. Postal markings, graffiti-inspired gestures, and textured overlays reference travel, time, and lived experience. The woman becomes both message and messenger, asserting the visibility, agency, and enduring public presence of women.
