BLACK & WHITE PAPER REVERSAL: A WALK-IN CAMERA OBSCURA WORKSHOP WITH GREG WIETING
Join photographer Greg Wieting for a hands on workshop exploring a fascinating darkroom process that transforms ordinary black and white RC photographic paper into a positive image. Working inside the Pictorial Foundation's Walk-in Camera Obscura, participants will make exposures directly onto black and white photographic paper. Using a simple reversal process of developing, bleaching, clearing, re-exposing and redeveloping the paper, the negative image is transformed into a finished positive photograph. The process offers an accessible and affordable alternative to direct positive photographic paper while producing its own distinctive character. Because photographic paper is primarily sensitive to UV and blue light, the resulting images have a beautiful, often unexpected quality and a more limited tonal range than traditional film.
Greg will guide participants through the process from exposure to finished print, introducing the chemistry, timing and techniques needed to create successful positive images. This workshop is an opportunity to experience the walk in camera obscura as a working photographic instrument while exploring an unusual and hands on alternative photographic process.
