A Visual Journey Through New York:

Our premier publication, The Pictorial List – Volume One: New York, marks the beginning of The Pictorial List’s commitment to fostering a global community of visual storytellers. This 276-page hardcover volume reimagines the spirit of Pictorialism for the twenty-first century — merging its expressive visual language with the immediacy and diversity of contemporary photography.

Founded in 2020, The Pictorial List was created to celebrate and support photographers whose work expands the boundaries of visual storytelling. Our mission is to provide a platform that amplifies creative voices, encourages dialogue across cultures, and deepens the understanding of visual arts as a force for connection and reflection.

This first volume embodies that mission by inviting readers to experience New York through the eyes of artists who see beyond its surface — revealing the currents, contradictions, and human stories that define it. VOLUME ONE – NEW YORK features a curated collection of work by Andrew Kung, Barbara Peacock, Bill Lacey, Carl Rubino, Daniel Martinez, Elizabeth J. Holmes, Elle Clark, Hazel Hankin, Juan Sostre, Robert Sherman, Syndi Pilar, and The Blue Hour Photo Collaborative. Highlights include an intimate visit to the darkroom of Meryl Meisler, a rare look into Arlene Gottfried’s archives, and an interview with Alicia Hansen, Founder and CEO of NYC SALT.

Complementing these features, a dedicated Community Section presents the work of fifty additional photographers — a collective vision that celebrates the diversity and complexity of New York’s photographic landscape.

Designed, edited, and authored by Karen Ghostlaw and Melanie Meggs, with a foreword by Meryl Meisler, The Pictorial List – Volume One: New York stands as both an artistic statement and a testament to our mission: to connect, elevate, and celebrate visual storytellers across the world.
