BARBARA CHRISTOL
Nîmes FRANCE
I am a French multidisciplinary visual artist working across painting, drawing, weaving, photography, and installation. I trained at the Beaux-Arts of Nîmes and later at the Sorbonne in Paris, where I completed a doctoral thesis on the “transitional labyrinth.”
My work examines relationships between space, time, and perception, with geometry forming a central thread throughout my practice. I have lived and worked between France and Chile, particularly during the years I spent between Paris and Santiago de Chile. I now live and work in Nîmes while maintaining an active international presence.
My work has been exhibited in France and abroad, including at the Salon des Beaux-Arts in Paris, the Sculpture Symposium in Chile, Art Cologne, the Saatchi Gallery in London, and galleries in New York and Tokyo. I also regularly participate in artist residencies and collaborate with creators from other disciplines, including dance and music.
I work with line, thread, and gesture as ways of thinking. My practice moves between painting, drawing, weaving, photography, and installation, yet it always returns to the same question: how does a structure shape what can be seen, felt, or understood?
Periods of travel and nomadism have also influenced the way I understand space and transition. My collaborations with dance and music continue this interest, opening my practice to the body, movement, sound, and time. Through these exchanges, I create work that considers how forms shift, connect, and unfold across space.
