Blue Presence (2026)
BARBARA CHRISTOL
sky‑blue wool (Bergère de France), arm‑woven, unraveled and rewoven for this activation; suspended textile installation
approx. 275.6 in x 137.8 in (700 x 350 cm)
I reactivate a woven cover as both surface and declaration. Weaving becomes a form of writing, with each thread functioning as code, decision, rhythm, and constraint. Historically associated with women’s domestic labor, the repeated gesture expands toward monumentality through soft blue wool that persists and occupies space without domination. Suspended in the gallery, Blue Presence creates shifting transparencies, thresholds, and paths around its open structure. Softness becomes a strategy through which women and gender expansive identities claim visibility. GIRL operates not as a label, but as a framework for identity, protection, shared territory, and undeniable presence.
