MAGDA MACIAS
The Woodlands TX UNITED STATES
I am an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of art, science, and identity. My practice centers on material experimentation — using oil, acrylic, printmaking, and processes that combine beeswax, resin, and pigment to explore color, structure, and transformation. Currently, my work engages with art-as-practice, extending into social interaction, data analysis, racial equity, and the role of art in restoring and healing human stress. I hold an MFA in Art and Social Practice from Sam Houston State University (2024), a BFA in 2D Studio Art with a minor in Art History from SHSU, and a Bachelors Degree in Computer Systems Engineering from ITESM in Monterrey, Mexico.
My process draws on printmaking, particularly photographic etching with solar plates and encaustic, allowing material layers to mirror themes of camouflage, disappearance, and transformation. Through this work, I seek to examine how environments are changed by those who are excluded from acknowledgment, and how identity persists despite systemic invisibility.
