Pictorial Foundation proudly opens its doors for the very first time with Foundations of Practice, an exhibition highlighting artists whose work is grounded in research, experimentation, and process. We invite artists to explore how inquiry can both shape work and be work; a blurring between conception, installation, and all of the steps in between. Studio mess, research data, or notebook markings are embodiments of thinking and doing. Translated into a context of display, we can encounter the transient gestures of playing and learning in a new light. We aim to give visibility to everything that goes into the process of making—the experiments, discoveries, stumbles and failures. Formal or informal, finished or just starting, we encouraged artists to share the curiosities that drive what they do.
