PHILIP DEMARTINO
Kingston NY UNITED STATES
Where my eyes land, my mind follows; where my mind goes, my energy flows. By creating an alter-ego/stand-in, I am attempting to make sense of the absurdities that I see all around us. Our lives are full of contradictions, and mine is no exception. I like simple things, yet I relish excess.
Philip DeMartino is a New York-based artist and street photographer working under the persona WHEREMYEYESLAND. His practice spans urban collage, street interventions, photography, and mixed-media narrative. Using found and repurposed materials, Philip considers how discarded images and objects can be reorganized without adding to the material excess of contemporary life. His works examine how society arrived at its present conditions and where it may be moving, approaching overlooked urban spaces as sites of visual evidence and social inquiry.
Philip makes photographs while walking through city neighborhoods, responding to chance encounters, fragments, and details within the built environment. He often places his WHEREMYEYESLAND sticker into a location before photographing it or overlays related imagery onto the original photograph during editing. Working in diptychs and triptychs, he uses contrast and continuity to construct narratives that remain unresolved. Each composition operates as the beginning of a story, inviting the viewer to consider what exists beyond the frame.
