SUPRINA TROCHE

Poughkeepsie NY UNITED STATES
Art can make us more consciously aware of each other’s lives, of our struggles and victories, our kindnesses or our indifference. Art can help us recognize that despite the abuses we instigate, or simply tolerate, we are also capable of compassion and justice.

The discarded, everyday objects I use to construct my sculptures along with modeling, casting, sewing and painting, serve as lures into a deeper recognition of what it means to be human: to thrive or struggle in our modern world, to be celebrated on the one hand, or discarded by society, authority, or circumstance on the other.

Message alone though, isn’t enough. As an artist, I’m drawn to beauty, and my art must express beauty at the same time as our sometimes dark and layered condition.

I celebrate us. We are beautiful, horrid, tragic and profoundly funny.

Integration is key; I am challenged to overcome the unique 'oneness' of an object in order to complete a successful work using numerous objects. The object itself, while keeping its core integrity must surrender to the greater good...my end statement.
