MARY ANN GLASS
Wappingers Falls NY UNITED STATES
My process is centered on intuitive layering, bringing photographs, textures, ephemera, documents, and drawn marks together so that multiple histories and emotional registers can coexist within a single image.
Mary Ann Glass is a Hudson Valley-based artist working across photography, painting, printmaking, encaustic, cyanotype, manipulated Polaroids, and mixed media. Her current practice centers on iPhone photography, a process she has taught for several years. Through experimentation with digital and analog techniques, Mary Ann examines how material, process, and image manipulation can alter perception. She is a co-owner of RiverWinds Gallery in Beacon, New York.
Raised in Ohio, Mary Ann studied at Ohio State University and the American Graduate School of International Management. After working as a vice president at Chase Manhattan Bank, she attended the summer intensive program at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography and established her professional photography practice in the Hudson Valley in 1999. She has studied with Eric Lindbloom, Dan McCormack, Joel Meyerowitz, Joyce Tenneson, and Arlene Collins, and participated in artist residencies in Myślenice, Poland, and Beacon. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions at the International Center of Photography, Center for Photography at Woodstock, Lincoln Center, RiverWinds Gallery, Locust Grove, Bannerman Gallery, and other venues throughout New York and the United States.
