Midartz was born and raised in the Bronx and relocated to Port Jervis, New York, in 2020. Working primarily through a Neo-Expressionist approach, his practice places narrative at the center of image-making. Influenced by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Pablo Picasso, he constructs each painting through an intuitive exchange between material, gesture, composition, and form. Layers of oil, acrylic, pastel, and spray paint allow the physical qualities of each medium to direct the work’s development. Through the tension between gestural marks and symbolic detail, his paintings unfold as visual accounts of lived experience.

Midartz’s work has been exhibited at UpFront Exhibition Space, Winston Scott Gallery, Brooklyn Art Cave, GB Art Gallery, Henzo Gallery, Lavan Chelsea, Bank Art Gallery, and The Holy Art Gallery in Berlin. He has also participated in group exhibitions including Of Needle and Nerve and Of Hull and Hush in Kingston, New York. His solo exhibition at Suite Noir in Newburgh further established his presence within the Hudson Valley arts community. His work has been featured in the Times Herald-Record, and he has appeared in an interview on OPEN, produced by BronxNet.
