MIDARTZ

Bronx NY UNITED STATES
Born and raised in the Bronx, I relocated to Port Jervis, New York, in 2020. Influenced by artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Pablo Picasso, narrative is central to my work. Each piece carries its own story, unfolding through bold brushstrokes and layered symbolism. For me, Neoexpressionism represents freedom. I want viewers to feel the energy in my paintings and connect with characters that embody strength, leadership, and vulnerability.

My work has been exhibited at UpFront Exhibition Space, Winston Scott Gallery, Brooklyn Art Cave, GB Art Gallery, Henzo Gallery Lavan Chelsea, Bank Art Gallery, and The Holy Art Gallery in Berlin, Germany, as well as in group exhibitions including 'Of Needle and Nerve' and 'Of Hull and Hush' in Kingston, New York. I have presented a solo exhibition at Suite Noir in Newburgh, New York, and my work has been featured in the Times Herald-Record and interviewed on the BronxNet cable program 'OPEN'.

I approach painting as an intuitive negotiation between impulse and material, letting narrative drive mark-making as much as composition or form. Working primarily in a neo-expressionist style, I build my images through layers of oil, acrylic, pastel, and spray paint, allowing each medium’s physicality to shape the work’s emotional energy. For me, the process is about creating tension between bold brushstrokes and symbolic detail so that each piece unfolds like a lived experience.
