WOOBIE
New Paltz NY UNITED STATES
Humour and irony are central to my process. I use them as tools to expose, question, and complicate systems of corruption, power, and control.
Woobie is an interdisciplinary artist based in New Paltz, New York, where they are pursuing a BFA in Painting at SUNY New Paltz. Their practice spans painting, sculpture, drawing, animation, and photography, bringing different materials and visual languages together to examine social and political structures. Rather than addressing these subjects through direct explanation, Woobie uses wit, contradiction, and visual tension to create works whose playful surfaces carry a critical dimension.
Experimentation and movement between fine art, commercial photography, and creative direction shape Woobie’s process. This exchange allows their images and objects to operate across personal, cultural, and commercial contexts while questioning the boundaries between them. Their work has appeared in Free Madness, The Oracle, Inside+Out, HVSFW, and Chronogram. Woobie has participated in group exhibitions and presented a solo exhibition at Rule of Thirds Studio. They have also worked with the Center for Photography at Woodstock, assisting with summer workshops focused on photographic processes. Alongside their studio practice, Woobie works as a creative director and commercial photographer throughout the Hudson Valley and New York City.
