In Wild West Buffalo Bill, I aim to subvert the audience’s conceptions of the American cowboy figure by placing myself into the role of the infamous archetype of the ‘Marlboro Man’ that we have seen throughout pop culture history. I seek to evoke the topics of race, power play, gender dynamism, and eroticization in order to emphasize everything this character never was, creating an exploitative commentary on the deification of this character, and challenging its existence within history.
