The Pictorial Foundation invites women and gender-expansive mural artists to submit proposals for the inaugural Women in Public Space Commission. This annual initiative will support the creation of a large-scale mural at the Pictorial ArtSpace, launching a new platform for artists working in public space.

The Pictorial Foundation announces an Expression of Interest for the inaugural Women in Public Space Commission, seeking proposals from women and gender-expansive mural artists.

This annual initiative supports the creation of a large-scale interior mural on the main wall of the Pictorial ArtSpace, establishing an ongoing platform for visibility, authorship, and leadership in contemporary mural practice.

The selected artist will realize a new work on site during US Memorial Day Weekend, transforming the ArtSpace into a live environment of making and public engagement. Over the course of a three-day program of painting, music, food, and gathering, visitors will witness the mural unfold in real time, positioning the act of creation itself as a shared cultural experience.

Installed for approximately one year, the mural will become part of the Foundation’s ongoing exploration of image making in public space and the role of artists in shaping collective dialogue. The commission sits within a broader public program of exhibitions, events, and conversations, ensuring the work is not only presented but actively shared with the community and visiting audiences.

As the inaugural artist launching this initiative, the selected muralist will be permanently acknowledged on the Foundation wall, marking their role in establishing this annual platform.

Artists and members of the creative community are encouraged to share this opportunity widely.
